appeared on a television program featured my English novel, Beyond the Division on
17th October 2019. Replying to a
reporter’s question, I answered:
“I met a female tour guide, when I visited the
North’s border city of Gaeseong in spring 2006. She looked so pretty, and later
served as the model for Soon in the novel, Beyond the Division. It was my first time to
visit North Korea at that time. I was so surprised that it only took about an
hour from downtown Seoul to Gaeseong. Yes, I wanted to deliver a message of
unification for the two Koreas in this novel…”
